Hyatt Centric – The Bengaluru Brasserie

High at Hyatt Centric ? Well one could easily get intoxicated with the beautiful ambience of the heady bar and spacious restaurant at the newly rebranded Hyatt Centric which has metamorphosed from the earlier Hyatt. Poised at catering to the needs of the millennial, this boutique hotel portrays a vibrant space in the center of the happening MG road and is the first one from Hyatt, in India.

Its restaurant, The Bengaluru Brasserie in its refurbished avatar from its predecessor Lido, strives to portray a breezy, relaxed setting to unwind in, with the poolside presence greatly enhancing the effect.

The cuisine is global and care has been taken to add a touch of the local in the little twists and turns that have been incorporated.

I was invited to experience the newly created fare and the pleasant weather, good food and warm hospitality, made it a very pleasurable evening indeed.

Though the terrace seating looked tempting, the nip in the June air made us scuttle into the warmth of the cozier indoors and next to the Bar (for even greater warmth )

Drinks –

The signature cocktails that they have created, included the local sounding Kaapi curry, Chil Madi, Centric santra, Sakath, Bul Bul and Coco Twist and the bartender merrily shook up several of them for us to sample.

Being quite eccentric about santra, my favorite was Centric Santra with vodka, rosemary, home made orange marmalade and lime.

The Kaapi curry with Tequila, Kahlua, curry leaves and lime, was also quite interesting.

What I loved the most though, were the home made dehydrated slices of Valencia oranges that they had stored in a little jar and which they used to garnish many of their drinks. Delicious to chew on … an orange chip if you will !!!

They also have a collection of classic cocktails as well as mocktails for non drinkers.

Food –

The appetizers consisted of the vegetarian Dumplings with water chestnut and garlic chives, Tossed tofu with mixed mushrooms and bamboo shoots, Millet wrap with cucumber, avocado, lime curd and fresh mint and the non veg Tossed prawn wonton with sesame, chilli and spring onion sauce and the Kung pao chicken with cashew, dried chilli, onion and Sichuan peppers.

The dumplings and the tofu were my picks, with the latter taking my fancy with the generous addition of several varieties of mushrooms. The Millet roll was found to be spicy by some of the guests but I can handle heat so they were not a problem for me 😀

The the Kung pao chicken  was excellent but the Prawns in the wonton were a tad overdone and should have been more succulent.

We also had the veg salad with baby spinach, asparagus, mango, feta and passion fruit coulis which was refreshing but could have benefited with some more mango.

The non veg Poached prawn with raw mango and chilli lime dressing was very good.

For the vegetarian Mains we were served a Millet kichdi with pickles and papad, a very interesting Barley Risotto, Chick peas curry, red rice and rotis.

The non veg had a Grilled Sea Bass topped with avocado, caper berries and cherry tomatoes. The fish could have been sliced thinner because the toppings did not permeate all the way through the thick chunk that was served.

The spicy mango and coconut prawn curry was very good but lacked spice as well as the tang. However as a plain creamy coconut curry, it was truly delicious along with its accompanying steamed rice.

The desserts were brought forth in an array of items consisting of Rasmalai cheesecake with roasted almonds and raisins, White chocolate and cardamom mousse with passion fruit coulis, Mango tiramisu with coconut granola, Saffron, raisins and almonds vermicelli and a Light carrot halwa with cinnamon and pistachio. Well I was certainly not feeling light after that meal, so I just about managed to taste the cheesecake and tiramisu which were light and thankfully not too sweet.

The place is happening and it was abuzz with diners even on a week night. Its location is a great advantage and with a bit of tweaking and experimenting on the food and drink, they will definitely be a place to reckon with.
