Attended the run-up to World Diabetes Day on 14 November, with Power Bites, an event at Movenpick Hotels and Resorts, the luxury hotel with a décor and design that speaks of Swiss quality.
This was conducted by Chef Rayomund Pardiwalla and Chef Gaurav Bathla, in order to raise awareness about the importance of healthier eating practices … and what better age and stage to introduce such habits than right from childhood !!!
Combining the Children’s Day celebration along with this session, we had a demonstration of a few of their exclusive creations for kids that focused on nutrition and healthy cooking techniques, presented in a manner appealing to kids of all ages (that included parents too 😀 )
Tortilla sleeping bags were as interesting as the name suggests, with whole grain tortillas cozily ensconcing a healthy filling of hummus, cheese and raw vegetables, in an appealingly snug presentation. This was followed by Snails and butterfly sandwiches, which healthy as that may sound, was not actually made from the aforementioned two creatures 😀 but was brown bread with low fat spread, eggs and raw vegetables, presented in those shapes.
The Watermelon pizza with feta and blueberry spread topping was also a great hit. On popular request by the parents, Chef Gaurav was kind enough to also show us how to make bell pepper curls, the little yellow and red ‘rubber bands’ that you see in the album.
Happy kids make for happy parents and the level of excitement among the children was proof enough that it is not that difficult to please even the most finicky of eaters, even without resorting to junk food.
